
The Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) closed out July at 0.01%, the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute (IBGE) reported today (Aug. 8). This figure reflects a decrease compared to June (0.4%). The transport and personal expenses groups were the key contributing categories for the reduction.

With the result, the cumulative rate in twelve months has also gone down to 6.5%, standing level with the inflation target ceiling set by the government. Target inflation for 2014 is 4.5% with tolerance of plus two percentage points. In June, inflation had exceeded the ceiling for the annualized rate, reaching 6.52% for the past 12 months.
In the first seven months of 2014, IPCA closed out at 3.76%, up from 3.18% in the same period of 2013. In a year-over-year perspective, the rate in July this year (0.01%) went down from a year ago (0,03%).
