Brazil seeks new business deals with Peru and Colombia

Brazil's Minister for Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade Armando Monteiro is currently in Lima, Peru, in search of new business deals. This Tuesday (Jul 21), he is expected to meet with Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Blanca Magali Silva Verlarde-Álvarez to discuss the expansion of commercial ties between the two countries in such fields as services, investment and government purchases. Data from the ministry reveal that, last year, Brazil's exports to Peru amounted to $1.8 billion, and imports to $1.7 billion. The main goods sold to the country are manufactured products, which for 92% of total sales.
The ministry's office declared Wednesday (22) that Monteiro is to fly next to Colombia, where he is slated to announce the opening of Brasil Tecnológico 2015, organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). The event will promote the discussion of topics such as bioenergy and Brazil-developed solutions for the sectors of IT and machinery and equipment. Also according to official information, a round of negotiations is also expected to take place between firms from both countries. The event has been held in South Africa, Colombia, Peru, and Russia, and should return to Bogota this year, with an estimated generation of $30 million in trade agreements.
In 2014, Brazil's sales to Colombia totaled $2.38 billion, whereas imports amounted to $1.7 billion. Industrialized goods ed for 92.6% of the total exported.
In the view of Armando Monteiro, “[his] mission to these two important countries in the Pacific basin has been strategic for Brazil's foreign trade policy. We're fully capable of forging new deals aimed at significantly expanding commerce with Peru and Colombia, which, in fact, have showed substantial growth rates, and may present opportunities for a wide range of Brazilian goods.”
