Unemployment rate hit 9% in November
The unemployment rate in Brazil reached 9% in the quarter ended in November 2015, according the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD) released today (Feb. 19) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The figure is higher than those reported for the quarters ended in August 2015 (8.7%) and November 2014 (6.5%).
The unemployed population was 9.1 million people in November 2015, 3.7% more than in August and 41.5% more than in November 2014. The employed population (92.2 million) remained stable compared to August, but decreased 0.6% compared to November 2014.
The number of jobs with a formal employment contract (35.4 million) remained stable compared to August and was 3.1% down from November 2014.
