Petrobras confirmed Wednesday (Dec. 18) it did not reach an agreement with China’s CNPC to conclude the construction of the Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro, or Comperj.
After a study on the project’s economic viability, the two companies concluded that the refinery, located in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro, is not economically attractive, the note reads.
The Brazilian state-controlled oil giant’s board has requested a survey with alternatives for the Comperj area. One of them could include integration through ducts linking the Duque de Caxias refinery and some of the complex units for the production of basic lubricants and fuels.
