Brazil: Unemployment rate drops 8.7% in third quarter

Brazil`s unemployment rate fell 0.6 percentage points in the mobile quarter from July to September 2022 and stood at 8.7 percent in the period, compared with the quarter from April to June, when it stood at 9.3 percent. Compared to the same period in 2021, when the rate was at 12.6 percent, a reduction of 3.9 percentage points was ed.
The data point to a total of 9.5 million unemployed people, down 6.2 percent (621,000 fewer people) in the quarter, and 29.7 percent (4 million fewer people) in the year.
Employed population
In absolute numbers, the employed population totaled 99.3 million people, a record since 2012, the beginning of this . The rise in the quarterly comparison was 1 percent, or one million more people. In the year-on-year comparison, the rise stood at 6.8 percent, or 6.3 million more people.
The data are from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), and were released today (Oct. 27), in Rio de Janeiro, by Brazil´s statistics agency IBGE.
