Petrobras on Friday (May 9) announced a new oil discovery in the pre-salt Santos basin.

According to the state-owned company, the oil extracted from an exploratory well in the Aram block is of “excellent quality and free of contaminants.”

The well is 1,952 meters deep and 248 kilometers from the city of Santos.

Analysis

Laboratory tests will be carried out to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs and their potential. In addition, two more wells will be drilled.

The consortium that has been exploring the Aram block since 2020 has Petrobras as operator, with 80 percent of the project, and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) as a partner, with the remaining 20 percent. It must finish assessing the discovery by 2027. Aram is being explored under the sharing regime, with Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA) is the manager.
