Some 200 of the Popular Committee on the World Cup laid crosses in a construction site near the Mane Garrincha National Stadium in Brasília, in memory of nine workers who died while working on World Cup stadium projects.

A total of 400 policemen – double the number the number of protesters – were deployed for the security operation. But there were no clashes and only one road leading to the stadium was closed.

According to Thiago Avila, a member of the committee, this was just the first in a series of protests in the country capital. “We're planning demonstrations in all match days in Brasília, each with a different focus,” he said. The demonstration was ed by political parties and trade unions.
