President Dilma Rousseff had lunch today (Jun 12) in São Paulo, with 11 heads of State and political leaders who came to Brazil to watch the World Cup opener. FIFA President Joseph Blatter and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also took part in the welcoming event. After lunch was over, they proceeded to Arena Corinthians, the venue hosting the opening ceremony.

Dilma thanked all those present, highlighting the t effort of all leader towards “seeking the victory not only of our football teams in the field, but also the victory of peace and the fight against racial discrimination and for mutual respect.”

Among the leaders and heads of State who attended the event were Croatia’s Prime Minister Zorán Milanovic, and Presidents Michelle Bachelet (Chile), Rafael Correa (Ecuador), Desiré Delano Couterse (Suriname), Angola (José Eduardo dos Santos), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Horácio Cartes (Paraguay), Ali Bongo Odimba (Gabon), as well as Gana’s Vice-President Khesi Amissah-Arthur.
