Two journalists from CNN were injured as the Military Police clashed with a group of demonstrators protesting against the World Cup in São Paulo. Reporter Shasta Darlington suffered a slight cut on her arm and producer Bárbara Arvanitidis was hit on her wrist, according to information from CNN.

Nearly 200 people are taking part in the street protest, which was arranged on social networking sites and began early this morning. The act is referred to as Sem Direitos Não Vai Ter Copa – “No Rights, No Cup,” in a rough translation.

The police have used stun grenades in an attempt to keep demonstrators from reaching Radial Leste Avenue, an important connection between eastern and central São Paulo that leads to the Itaquerão Stadium, where the 2014 World Cup opening ceremony and first match (Brazil x Croatia) are to take place later today (Jun 12).

Five public attorneys from the Special Commission for the 2014 FIFA World Cup have been following the public demonstration in order to ensure people's right to protest. According to District Attorney Jiancarlo Silkunas, this entitlement has not been acknowledged.
