Court order to suspend Whatsapp services overturned

The appeals court judge, Raimundo Alencar of the Piauí Court of Justice (TJPI), overturned Thursday (Feb. 26) a decision from another state judge on February 11 to suspend all WhatsApp messaging across Brazil.
Alencar held as “unreasonable” the court order to bring down a service “used by millions of people for the sake of a local investigation,” the court website read.
Telecoms considered the takedown request disproportionate, saying it could “cause a huge loss to millions of Brazilians who use services that are often critical for their daily activities, including at work,” according to a statement by the National Union of Telecom and Celular and Personal Mobile Services (SindiTelebrasil).
