A new regulation effective today (Mar. 18) will subject facilitators of underage drinking to jail up to four years. The punishment applies to anyone who sells, gives, serves, isters, or delivers alcoholic beverages to children under 18 years old in Brazil. Depending on the case, the offense may also carry fines of up to $6,000 and business bans.
The new rule, introduced via an amendment to the Child and Adolescent Statute, also applies to other potentially addictive substances.
