Names of deputies opposed to impeachment displayed on big screen in São Paulo

A big screen with a “Map of Impeachment” displaying pictures of of the Chamber of Deputies who do not President Dilma Rousseff's impeachment or are still undecided was unveiled on Avenida Paulista, downtown São Paulo, on Sunday (Apr. 3), during a public demonstration organized by Vem Pra Rua movement. The Chamber of Deputies is expected to vote on Rousseff's impeachment by the first half of April.

Banners with pictures of Congress who are opposed to impeachment were also hung in front of the building of the Federation of São Paulo State Industries (FIESP), where the event took place. These banners were called the “Wall of Shame.” “We are showing people where each of the deputies stands on the issue,” said Rogério Chequer, one of the movement's leaders. In his opinion, the Chamber of Deputies is “failing to listen to what a majority of Brazilians want—impeachment.” He says similar demonstrations will take place around Brazil in the two weeks.

During the event, the protesters were wearing green or yellow tops and carrying flags of Brazil and yellow duck balloons that have become the symbol of a campaign against tax increases. They shouted watchwords for impeachment and against the ruling Workers' Party (PT).

Street vendors took the opportunity to sell inflatable dolls with caricatures of Rousseff and former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva dressed as convicts, and of Sérgio Moro, the judge in charge of Operation Car Wash corruption investigations, dressed as a yellow-and-green Superman.
