The president's Social Communications Minister Edinho Silva said Friday (Feb. 26) that Dilma Rousseff's presidential campaign in 2014 "had no attitude that was not observing the law." The minister made the statement when asked about possible impacts of an João Santana's prison this week on actions filed in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) against Rousseff's campaign.

"I was the finance director of Rousseff's presidential campaign. The campaign collected money legally, ethically and with transparency. I guarantee that there was nothing illegal during the 2014 campaign."

The minister noted that "the TSE judges upon facts, materiality, and not upon inferences, speculation, nor upon an investigation often used for political disputes."

Edinho Silva, who attended the Workers' Party (PT) national convention in Rio de Janeiro, also complained about the political use of federal police investigations by opposition sectors. He also commented on the divergence between the government and PT . According to him, the country and the party need unity. "The PT will not overcome the crisis without the government and the government needs the PT to take Brazil out of the crisis."

Commenting on possible divergences between PT and the government on the economic agenda, Edinho Silva declared the president defends the same agenda of the party. "We have a coalition government. Often, confrontation in Congress forces the government to dialogue with other parties, to adopt stances with other parties. It does not mean that she does not defend PT's agenda. Similarly, it does not mean that the PT does not defend the government," concluded the minister.
