Brazil's President Michel Temer is going to Lisbon for the funeral of former Portugal president Mário Soares Tuesday (Jan.10).
Soares, one of Portugal's main political figures, died Saturday (7) aged 92, after more than 20 days in hospital.
Temer issued a note saying he met the news of Soares's death with sadness. He described Soares as a “statesman”, a “champion of democracy and freedom,” and added he was “a key figure of modern Portugal” and “a friend of Brazil.”
The Brazilian president leaves for Portugal in the early afternoon today (9).
