In a note released today (Sep. 14), Blairo Maggi, former Mato Grosso state government and Brazil’s current agriculture minister denies having sought to hinder the work of the authorities or having allowed the execution of illicit acts in any government agency.

Maggi also denied he paid or allowed payments to be made to Éder Moraes, former finance secretary of Mato Grosso, who is said to have changed the statement previously made to the police incriminating him. The payment is believed to have been revealed by Silval Barbosa, ex-governor of the same state, as part of a plea bargain deal.

This morning, the Federal Police served search and seizure warrants at 64 addresses, some of which belonging to the minister in Mato Grosso and Brasília.

The warrants come as part of Operation Malebolge—the 12th stage of Ararath, which investigates money laundering and illicit loans involving factoring companies.

“No act was perpetrated by me or allowed to be carried out by me in a bid to commit any wrongdoing as an official or to obstruct the authorities. I will not accept any attempt to make 'changed versions' of the testimonies of those under investigation. I am fully interested in the discovery of the truth,” Maggi said in a note.
