Bolsonaro back in Brasília after medical treatment

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged from hospital this Sunday morning (Jul. 18) and talked to journalists outside the Vila Nova Star Hospital, in southern São Paulo, where he underwent treatment for an intestinal obstruction.

During the interview, Bolsonaro said he is to resume work at his office early on Monday morning (19) and meet with Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga to discuss COVID-19.

“I didn’t stop working here. I talked to several ministers, assigned tasks to a number of them. I’m seeing Queiroga tomorrow about the COVID-19 situation. I’ve gained access to a study by [the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention], and what kills COVID-19 the most is obesity; second, dread and panic. what I said a while ago: You have to face it, there’s no way out. If you’re panicking or in dread, the chance of seeing [COVID-19] become severe is really high,” he declared.

The president also said he plans to discuss the use of drug proxalutamide against COVID-19 with Queiroga. He reported he will request studies on the medicine in the country.

Bolsonaro also talked about the meeting with the leaders of the three branches of government, which was put off due to the president’s ission to hospital. He said the assembly will take place, adding “there’s nothing abnormal” at these meetings, which serve to “settle a few things and have a chat.”

Hospitalization

The president said he wanted to go since the first day after hospitalization, and said he hopes to be “eating ribs on the  barbie or anything, 15 days from now.” “Apart from that, the struggle goes on, Brazil is out there, and there’s a lot to solve.”

After the discharge, in addition to being monitored by doctors, the president will have to follow a diet, but Bolsonaro himself itted he is “a horrible example when it comes to diets.”

The president has returned to Brasília.
