IOC Executive Director confident about security for Rio 2016

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Director Christophe Dubi told journalists in Rio yesterday (Jul. 22) he was confident about Brazil's security plans for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which begin on August 5. However, he warned that “the world we live in has changed. Terrorism is [nowadays] no more prevalent in one country than another and I'm afraid that's a factor we have to deal with. That's the world we live in.”
Dubi commended the integration between Brazil's security forces and their collaboration sharing information and experiences with foreign intelligence agencies. He described the security plans as “robust”, and said that security operations for the games were unveiled two months ago to a large number of foreigners, including experts and of organizing committees of past Olympic Games.
“We were told all about the security preparations. We were also told about the intelligence resources, and we saw confidence in all those participants,” Dubi said. He said he was looking forward to the Olympics with excitement and praised Rio residents and Brazilians more generally.
