Brazil's interim President Michel Temer will attend the opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Friday (Aug. 5). According to the presidential press office, he will welcome dozens of heads of State at Itamaraty Palace in Rio at 5pm. From there, the country leaders will set off for Maracanã stadium for the opening ceremony.

Yesterday (3), after Brazil's Women's Football Team 3-0 victory over China, Temer wrote on his twitter he was “very happy”. “We've got off to a good start @ Rio2016. Congratulations, Brazil girls!” he said.

During a ceremony with newly-promoted general officers at the presidential Planalto palace, the interim president again said the Olympic Games will go on smoothly. “We have already begun welcoming delegations of tourists from around the world. It's really reassuring, I can tell you with absolute confidence, to count on the Armed Forces for the security of competitions and the activities around them,” he said on the occasion.
