Federal government plans to raise $487 million next year from the sale of land and real estate properties. Aiming to replace rental expenses, six buildings will be constructed to be attached to Esplanade of Ministries buildings, in partnership with the private sector; a new headquarters for the IRS will be constructed and two buildings will be renovated. The information was released Wednesday (Aug. 26) by the Ministry of Planning, Budget, and Management.

The measures are part of the government effort to cut federal costs and expenses. The ministry said he would authorize the sale of 119 properties, with an estimated value of $143.7 million in 2016. They also plan to sell real estate with no use for the public service in the Federal District, and to collect money with 30 land alienation with estimated market value of $178.6 million. Finally, 530 apartments and houses for government employees will be sold, forecasting a collection of $164.6 million.

In the Planning Minister Nelson Barbosa view, the sale of real estate and land will provide "substantial" income at a time of fiscal restructuring.

"It will improve the public management and the use of buildings and urban land. In addition, there is a new scheme for renovating and constructing public buildings through long-term lease agreement, which resembles a public-private partnership," he mentioned.
